About Apologia Science CurriculumApologia curriculum has revolutionized high school science for homeschools. The unique conversational tone and straight-forward explanations make science concepts much easier to understand and more enjoyable to study. This is the best curriculum for most homeschools because it makes science accessible; a teacher with a science background is not required. That's good news for parents who didn't study chemistry or physics!
One aspect of Apologia that many homeschooling parents appreciate is that it's written from a creationist perspective and emphasizes a biblical worldview. Another benefit of using Apologia is the free support via email or phone that Doctor Wile provides. If you have a question, Apologia welcomes you to ask them directly! See free sample lessons from each course - just select a course in the Apologia category and click the PDF link at the end of the page under "more information.'' You can also read customer reviews of the curriculum from families who have used it; it's one of the top-rated items at Home Science Tools. Science Kits Each Apologia course includes hands-on lab activities to demonstrate scientific principles and increase students' interest in science by seeing the real thing. With these labs, Apologia provides science courses that are equal or superior to most high school classes. To make it more affordable to complete experiments, the lab work requires primarily household items. Home Science Tools also has kits available with the harder-to-find items like chemicals and microscope slides so you can save time by getting everything together at once. All of our Apologia science kits are discounted 10%, so you'll also save money! Curriculum Scope & Sequence The typical sequence of Apologia courses starting in junior high is to begin with General Science in seventh grade, learning about scientific thinking, the history of science, geology, the definition of life, the human body, and more. This will lay a solid foundation for upper-level science classes. Next is Physical Science in eighth grade, covering measurements, water, air, the earth, weather, motion, electricity and magnetism, gravity, and more. In tenth grade, Chemistry covers atoms and molecules, changes in matter, acids and bases, chemical equations, molecular structure, ions, and more. In eleventh grade, Physics covers Newton's Laws of Motion, vectors, waves, light, electricity, and more. Algebra, geometry, and some trigonometry are prerequisites for this course. For students who want to do more in-depth studies or pursue a science career, there are also three Advanced Placement courses designed for a junior or senior year of science: "The Human Body'' Advanced Biology, Advanced Chemistry, and Advanced Physics. These AP courses give students the equivalent of a first-year college class in that subject area. Apologia also has life and earth science courses available for elementary level students. Apologia courses don't just come in textbook form - you can also get most of the high school courses on an audio CD, which works well for students who are auditory learners. For students who prefer working on the computer, you can also get most of the courses on CD-ROM. For students who prefer a textbook but want the multimedia extras - such as video clips and animations - inexpensive supplemental CDs are available.
