This advanced hovercraft kit is designed to work on land, water, or ice! The powerful two-motor design works well indoors or out and hovers over calm water, packed snow, ice, and hard surfaces such as pavement, floors, and tightly knit carpeting. You can rebuild your craft to take advantage of the special parts included in the kit: a swiveling thrust duct for interesting steering, a special wave jumping attachment for choppy water, and a skirt for obstacle clearance. Parts to build a flying saucer are included for extra fun. You provide 8 AAA batteries (rechargeable NiMH batteries are recommended). Ages 13 & up.

This item is the most functional working hovercraft that we are aware of which sells for under $100. It is constructed of die-cut foam trays (like meat trays) to minimize weight. It is not an "assemble and play" product but rather a kit that you will experiment with again and again as you try different ways to improve the operation of the hovercraft and the surfaces it operates on. Younger kids will need some adult assistance.

Also, this hovercraft requires fresh AAA batteries to achieve maximum performance (four batteries per motor, eight batteries total if operating the twin-motor hovercraft). Rechargeable NiMH AAA batteries are highly recommended for optimal performance.

Science Fair Project Ideas:

• Test the Hovercraft's speed on different surfaces.  Do you think it will travel the fastest on ice, snow, calm water, pavement, wood floors, tile, or carpet?
• Using the wave jumping and skirt attachments, what works best on calm water? What about on choppy water?
