Ballista Kit
The ballista is an artillery weapon dating back to the Roman Empire. It looks like a giant crossbow, and works much the same way. The original ballista was powered by bundles of twisted horse hair, but braided cord is provided in this version. Kids can build and operate their own artillery machine while studying tension, triggers, and the motion of a sling with this exciting science kit! This ballista kit contains pieces accurately machined from carefully chosen lumber, and precisely drilled to allow easy assembly. The kit also includes wooden ammo that can be shot over 30 feet! Detailed, clearly illustrated assembly instructions guide the builder through each step of constructing their trebuchet kit.
The completed ballista model measures 20 cm (8") x 15 cm (6") x 15 cm (6"). A how-to section demonstrates loading and firing the completed ballista, including tips on tuning the finished kit to achieve optimal results. You provide glue and supervision for children under age 12. Ages 10 & up.
