    Pyrex vs. Bomex

    I bought both the Pyrex and Bomex 1000 mL beakers at the same time. Comparison between Pyrex and Bomex: Height 16 cm vs 15 cm, same diameter, weight 14.0 oz vs 9.4 oz. As can be observed, Pyrex has thicker glass (stronger?) and thus heavier. Markings: Pyrex has markings from 100 mL all the way to 1000 mL and "+/- 5%"; Bomex has markings from 100 mL to 900 mL. and "APPROX". Comments: When I buy a 1000 mL, I plan to use it all the way to 1000 mL, not 900 mL. So if you have a Bomex and plan to use it for 1000 mL, you will need to scale the beaker and mark the 1000 mL on the beaker. Whether to buy a Pyrex or a Bomex will depend on the application and budget. [From Home Science Tools: please note that beakers will vary slightly based on supply.]
