Kids will get to perform 30 fun experiments, like making invisible ink, turning yellow liquid to blue by adding citric acid, using litmus solution to test for an acid or base, and forming carbon dioxide.
With Chem C500, you'll give your kids an excellent hands-on introduction to the world of chemistry. The projects cover foundational topics such as acids & alkalis, liquids & gas, electric current, and chemical compounds.
This set comes with a 32-page illustrated instruction manual as well as chemistry lab equipment, safety goggles, and five chemicals. Adult supervision is required. Some household items are needed, such as a 9-volt battery and lemon juice. Ages 8-13.
This is a good replacement for the Chemlab 1100, which is no longer available.

Chem c500Reviewed By: Sharon Great introduction to basic chemistry. My 11 year was able to do most of the experiments alone. All of the experiments worked with the exception of three. Very good value for the money.

Great for a next step in chemistryReviewed By: Mingo My 9yo daughter received this for Christmas. I was a bit skeptical because many of the experiments sounded "familiar." (One forgets how often children get a kick out of the acid/base foam reaction.) However, this kit does a great job of asking questions and taking these simpler experiments just a step farther than intro chem books/programs. It also goes into some electrical experiments as well, which are definitely beyond the basics. I'm considering the next level kit, based upon our positive experiences with this one.

Chem C500Reviewed By: Rachael I enjoyed doing this kit. I'm an adult trying to learn chemistry, and I don't have time for a book. I think that it could have been put together a little better though. For a kid, however, this could be a good starting investment. Otherwise go for the 3000 kit.
