I wanted good value for the money, rather than the junky, plastic and paper stuff found in many current kits, nor rather amateurish "experiments" meant to wow a kid. For the money this was a great kit. It has actual glassware, and all the products are top notch. My son loved it and immediately began performing the experiments. This is a good beginner kit if one isn't sure you want to purchase larger more expensive ones yet. The instructions for the experiments are clear and the explanations for the science behind them are easy to understand, yet thorough. The experiments are fun, and one of them, the "Colorful Column" is quite dramatic. However, I have two cautions. The first is that there were a couple of the experiments that were very difficult to pull off. Patience is truly a virtue here. The second is that the experiments are really more of interest to the younger end of the product description's "12 & up" rather than older teens and adults. I don't think this is stated clearly enough on the website; this is the reason I gave the kit a "4" instead of a "5". That said, I still think this kit is well worth the money.
