Crayfish, 4-6", plain
This large freshwater crayfish (also called crawfish) plain preserved specimen is commonly used to study Arthropod anatomy. Genus and species is typically
Procambarus clarkii.
Note: Dissection specimens are initially preserved with a formaldehyde solution, the best animal tissue fixative. The formaldehyde is then displaced first with water and finally with a glycol solution to produce a moist, low-fume specimen which can be stored almost indefinitely. We recommend that you use specimens within one year of purchase to ensure the best tissue quality. Specimen discoloration over time is normal and does not indicate decay.
Store your specimens at normal room temperature--refrigeration is
not required. Storage in attics or garages at high temperatures will damage the specimens. Once opened, specimens can be resealed in a Zip-lock bag to prevent them from drying out for later use.
Shipping Note: This item only ships to a street address in the 50 US states with Standard or UPS shipping options.

Crayfish disssectionReviewed By: Diane Gross This was much easier than we thought it would be! The crayfish arrived quickly, didn't require refrigeration, and were much larger than we found in other catalogs. We will definitely order from your company again.

CrayfishReviewed By: Vicki Williams My class enjoyed the crayfish dissections done with your crayfish. They were a nice size and the students were able to find most of the parts they were looking for. Thanks

Fun to DissectReviewed By: J. Mayfield So far we have dissected the worm, starfish, cricket, and crayfish, and this was our favorite. The carapace came off easily and we were able to see many of the internal organs, including the gills, heart, stomach, and brain ganglia. We even were able to remove an eye and see the nerves leading from it to the brain. My partner was my five year old and she was able to see many of the organs and even help remove the exoskeleton. A much easier dissection that the cricket whose exoskeleton was tough to remove.

- Friday, March 21, 2008 Crayfish I had initially ordered a dissection/specimen kit for an earthworm, crayfish, frog and perch from a different online 'discount' sci. supply source, but when I compared our specimens to that the other students were using from H.S.Tools, I was disappointed in the tiny, dried up specimens that I had taken for granted as 'normal'. I immediately re-ordered from H.S.Tools. Their products were larger and 'fresher' (much more hydrated)than what I rec'd from the other company. Among our Biology Lab class, specimen size varied slightly (incl. the crayfish), but they were all bigger and better than what I got by 'saving' money elsewhere. My students had a much more successful dissection experience because the quality was there. And, it only took a week to receive them with regular delivery (& now I needed them fast!), vs. the 2-3 weeks I waited for the inferior items. I certainly learned my lesson! You don't pay much more, but you get a LOT more in terms of quality and service.
