Worked Great for my Cub Scouts!
Reviewed By: Hilda
After reading all of the reviews I went ahead and tried this with my cub scout den as part of our Geology Pin requirements. We used a glass bowl, and we covered the rock about 3/4 of the way leaving some dry rock at the top. I gave them the option of adding food coloring at home, which me and my son did, and it worked great. Very happy with this product.

nice project

This project was fun. My son loved watching more crystals grow every day. I made the mistake of using a plastic bowl that I wanted to use again. Crystals also grew on the bowl. We have saved the rocks with the crystals on them.

GREAT
Reviewed By: Susan
This worked great and more quickly than I expected. The kids loved it. My only questions was whether we should add more vinegar after it evaporated. It evaporated after just a week or so.

Complete Flop
Reviewed By: Tim
The directions were simple as the previous commenter stated. Despite this, the product didn't work as advertised. In fact, it didn't work AT ALL. Don't buy this product. Home Science Tools should remove it from inventory and save its customers some money. ***Home Science Tools adds: We re-tested this product and were able to grow crystals in 24 hours. We assume this problem was caused by covering the rock with vinegar rather than leaving part of the rock exposed to air. Crystals will not form if the rock is covered with vinegar. To prevent confusion in the future, we've updated the manufacturer's directions for this product.

This was a fun project

The directions on the package could be better. This did not do well in the foil pans that we first put the rocks and vinegar in. However, when we changed the same rocks to glass pie plates we had wonderful crystals to observe after the vinegar evaporated. I found that putting the pie plates outside in the sun speed up the entire process by several days. The kids had fun with this project and can't wait to show off what they did at the next science club meeting.
