This kit comes with one pound of pure sucrose for clear crystals. The rock candy can form in just seven days! The instructions include enough information on crystals to make this a nice unit study. You provide adult supervision, a saucepan, and water. Ages 5 & up.

We liked the kit. It was fun to watch the crystals grow. My issue is with the quality of the jar that the crystals grow in. The sucrose and water gets heated and poured into the jar. However, after our crystals had grown, I went to wash it in the sink, and the jar shattered with just tap water! The jar should have been made to withstand heat. If it had ever shattered when we were putting the syrup in, someone would have gotten cut.

These crystals turned out really well, nice large crystal. Everything we needed was included. The kids liked eating them when they were done. It illustrates crystal growth in a fun way.

Crystal Growing Kit

We ordered this for a family project. Each of the 3 kids had their own jar. We colored each differently with food coloring to help them track their progress against the others. They loved watching the progress each day. Their favorite part was eating them when they had finished growing. Thanks for making Science fun.
