Deluxe Insect & Butterfly Net

Item# BE-NETDLX2

Create an experience they'll enjoy and always remember by heading outdoors to find and collect the butterflies, insects, and bugs for your upcoming unit study. You'll learn which creatures inhabit your backyard or neighborhood park, as well as their mode of locomotion. Do they flutter, fly in straight paths, hover over flowers, or march with purpose? Your adventure - and biology education - is set to begin!

This Deluxe Insect & Butterfly Net is perfect for experienced collectors, as well as students. The soft collecting bag and extra-long handle make it suitable for catching the most delicate butterfly or other insects, even at a distance. This net features a 13"-diameter, 30"-deep, open-shaped net bag with muslin banding at the top, a rugged folding steel net ring, and telescoping aluminum handle that extends from 18" up to 40" long. The entire butterfly net folds and collapses to just 18" long and 5" wide to fit in any pack.

How to use the bug net: When trying to capture an individual butterfly with a net, move slowly until you are in range. Position the net under the insect, then swing it upward and turn the handle so that it flips over and the captured insect cannot escape. Bring the butterfly net down to the ground and raise the end of it so that the insect can fly to the closed top, making it easier to get into another container.

Imagine the fun you'll have creating a beautiful display using the Net, the tools included in the Basic Insect Collecting Kit, and mounting them to share with friends in the Insect Exhibit Case,

Great net! Review by
We purchased one of these a year ago, and just purchased and received two more. We love them. Sturdy and the double telescoping feature is very convenient. Definitely great product and value. And yes, we use it a lot...to catch carpenter bees around our log home!
Nice Net Review by
Looks like a great net that should work well, but have not had opportunity to use it yet. Great service and speedy delivery. Placing orders is very simple and straight-forward process.
not good Review by
We bought this net as 'a step up' for our daughter who catches odonata. She only used it twice before the handle broke. The plastic connections do not hold up. It is nice net for a small child to catch butterflies in, but did not take the stress needed for catching dragonflies. Have since been using a metal handle with push-button connection net. More expensive, but holds up.
Okay collecting net Review by
Overall this net is okay. We've been using a fish/butterfly net from a local hardware store for years and it was both strong and delicate and able to be used in the water. This one was delicate for young collectors specifically looking to net insects (not for the water). It's okay, but I would go with something a little sturdier and easier to use (the telescoping handle is really hard to get locked out). The net fabric is also really delicate and easily ripped, even when using gently and appropriately. (Ours ripped when gently trying to net a butterfly on a bush and has also snagged on dry grass.)

Pros:
*The telescoping handle provides a nice long reach.
*It has a fine net and a good shape for collecting delicate insects.

Cons:
*The telescoping handle is hard to lock out and the plastic doesn't seem sturdy. The handle is also a bit wobbly when extended.
*The fabric on the net is very delicate and ours got ripped on the first attempt to net a butterfly on a bush as well as getting snagged on dry grass.
*The folding option makes the net a bit crooked, which doesn't seem to be an issue, but looks strange.

Such a good tool Review by
I've just started taking a census of butterflies in our area, and I needed a net to help me identify them. This one is great. It's sturdy, well made, and easy to handle. I netted my first skipper with it, and the little guy was none the worse for wear when I released him.
