Deluxe Insect & Butterfly Net
This is a great professional-quality butterfly net for practiced collectors as well as students! The soft collecting bag and extra-long handle make it suitable for catching the most delicate butterfly or other insect even at a distance. This net features a 13"-diameter, 30"-deep open-shaped net bag with muslin banding at the top, a rugged folding steel net ring, and a special aluminum handle that extends from 18" up to 40" long. The entire butterfly net folds and collapses to just 18" long and 5" wide to fit in any pack.
How to use: When trying to capture an individual butterfly with a net, move slowly until you are in range. Position the net under the insect, then swing it upward and turn the handle so that it flips over and the captured insect cannot escape. Bring the butterfly net down to the ground and raise the end of it so that the insect can fly to the closed top, making it easier to get into another container. Ages 12 and up.
Overall Rating: Write an online review and share your thoughts with other customers Sort Reviews: Newest | Oldest | Highest Rating | Lowest Rating - Tuesday, May 14, 2013 Nice for the PriceReviewed By: Beth W. This is a decent net. I am an entomology student and my professional net broke, so I ordered this one because quick shipping was an option and I had to go on a trip. It's definitely decent, but nothing more. It would be perfect for kids, not great enough for everyday professional use though.
Things I was disappointed with: the telescoping is a bit jerky, and I was surprised to find that once extended, parts of the net were really dirty...sort of like a dusty grime. It was fine once I cleaned it, but didn't exactly seem new. Also, the bag portion seems unnecessarily long, which I find a bit aggravating. The material won't stand up to long seasons of bug hunting either, but is fine for a summer or two.
Things I like: shipping was nearly immediate, very happy with that! The net can fold up quickly and easily, making it easy to carry in a backpack. Really convenient.
All in all, I'd recommend for your kids or to have an extra net if you're in a squeeze. I won't be using it for everyday professional collecting, but am happy to have it around! Pleased. - Friday, March 29, 2013 Love This Butterfly Net!Reviewed By: Kim I am so pleased with this net. The quality far exceeds what I thought it would be for the price. It has great features ie. the extendable handle, and the net opening is large. Then you can compact it for carrying in the field and storage. I would give it 10 stars if that were an option. Great product, outstanding quality! - Friday, December 28, 2012 More than pleasedReviewed By: Ron Reading a description of a product online doesn’t always match the experience of actually seeing and handling it. So when I read the features of this butterfly net for the price they were asking I was a bit skeptical. However, since the price was excellent and the reviews were good, I took a chance. Even though my order was placed during the holiday rush I received it pronto. My skepticism was misplaced; it was exactly as described and the quality exceeds those I’ve seen at twice the price. I am an avid amateur entomologist (fifty plus years of experience). One of the nagging problems has always being able to carry a net when I traveled because good ones were so big and little ones were no good. This net is wonderfully made and collapses to a manageable size. The depth of the net will make collecting all insects much easier. I won’t be able to try it for a while since NW Tennessee is experiencing winter, but I know that it will be more than adequate to do the job when spring arrives. - Wednesday, December 26, 2012 On time delivery & Quality netReviewed By: steph I ordered this for a Christmas present for my husband who is interested in insect collection and study. The net arrived quickly and looks to be a good quality net. No loose parts or faulty connections on the handle or net part, and they screw securely together. My husband likes the net because it folds down so small and he can easily tuck it into a bag or pack if he goes on a hike. I'm in Tennessee, and it is December, so not much bug activity now, but will rate again in the spring when he's had a chance to try it out! - Wednesday, November 07, 2012 Great valueReviewed By: Paula This net is very high quality. Shipping was super fast. My daughter was very impressed after having many other nets that just didn't stand up to regular use. - Friday, November 11, 2011 A Bugs' worst nightmare Reviewed By: Renee This was a birthday present for my bug loving 9 year old. Very sturdy, can fold up easy to put in our bug catching kit. Easy to work as my daughter has special needs and a lot of things are difficult for her to operated that need to be taken down to store. She has mastered this net. So watch out bugs my daughter is armed and ready!
- Wednesday, October 19, 2011 Great net! Reviewed By: Terri My son is always catching bugs. This net is the best one I have found and makes it so easy for him to reach up and get them. The loop is wide and the net has lots of room to get the large, quick ones. I found the telescoping a bit difficult but he has no problem with it.
- Saturday, September 11, 2010 Very Impressed Reviewed By: Andrea I bought this because I am in a graduate entomology class, and we have to make an insect collection as part of our lab. I am very impressed with the quality and durability of this net. My kids use it all the time in the backyard and at the lake, and it hasn't ripped. The telescoping pole makes for easy storage. The net could be just a bit longer for easier twisting, but otherwise, it's perfect. I highly recommend!
- Thursday, September 09, 2010 It works but . . . Reviewed By: S. McCloskey The net and hoop deserve 5 stars. However the handle leaves a bit to be desired. The fittings holding together each section of the handle are glued on very sloppy. Excess glue was all over the place. I cleaned it up the best I could. One of the 2 I ordered feels and sounds like it has sand inside the tubes. It is difficult to extend and collapse it. Eventually this lead to the failure of one of the glued joints after a few outings. At least I can clean it out since it is now apart. Other then that it is a nice net. I'd recommend it.
- Friday, July 03, 2009 Pro Quality! Reviewed By: An Amateur Naturalist Next to my camera, my super dooper awsome retractible and extendable insect net goes wherever I go, even into my bedroom where It leans against the wall ready for our next excursion together. From fiddling around in the back yard to serious insect collecting in the field, this net is by far my most trusty assistant. What makes it so cool, though, is that is can do all this folding up so that it could practically fit in a hat, yet it is light as feather, durable as any good quality net, and a price everybody can afford. Besides, it makes you look pro...like your an entomologist making a revolutionizing discovery! ;->

- Monday, December 29, 2008 Best net I've found - a good buy! Reviewed By: 4H entomology parent Bought for my 12 year old son/entomology enthusiast. He's entering his 4th year in 4H entomology. The net is large and deep. Love the aluminum telescoping handle and ability to pack net away compactly. Had a bit of trouble figuring out how to open up net apparatus to assemble, but well designed for travel! A must have for young insect collectors!
- Saturday, December 27, 2008 Best Net on the Market We've had this product for a couple years. It was purchased in desperation after my daughters had destroyed several cheap nets we purchased locally. This one is not only inexpensive and collapsable, but durable, too! You won't find a better net out there.
- Monday, November 03, 2008 Mixed feelings Reviewed By: Chris While the handle is durable and nicely extendable, the net is kind of cheap. My son, grabbed it and hit it on a bush, trying to catch a moth and tore a hole in it.
- Friday, September 12, 2008 librarian Sept. 12, 2008 Reviewed By: L. Willis I ordered this net to use in a display in our school library. I had to find one that met several specifications and this one met them all. The price was perfect for my budget and the service was excellent. The quality of the net impressed me the most...after the display comes down, I may be inspired to actually use it for its intended purpose!

- Tuesday, August 12, 2008 Awsome! Reviewed By: The Naturalist This net is now part of my body. It is the best net ever! I can't believe how light weight and how sturdy, strong and efficient the whole thing is. The best part of it though, is the disasembaling charactoristic. It's always a bit awkward walking around with a long net sticking out of your backpack, or off the end of your bike, and still more impossible to bring on airplanes and long car trips if your net is as long as this one and wooden. The fact that both the stick and the net ring fold up is amazing and I still can't rave enough about it! (Not to mention the excelent price!)
- Thursday, July 03, 2008 Great for catching dragonflies Reviewed By: M Tepper I love this net, the only thing I would like is if you made one in a bit of a darker color as well. I've caught lots of dragonflies with it.
