Kit Contents |

Note: six dissection pins are included in this kit; you can also order an extra pack of pins to make pinning even easier.
Note: You can order this dissecting kit now even if you won't be using it until later in the year. Specimens are initially preserved with a formaldehyde solution, the best animal tissue fixative. The formaldehyde is then displaced first with water and finally with a glycol solution to produce a moist, low-fume specimen which can be stored almost indefinitely. We recommend that you use specimens within one year of purchase to ensure the best tissue quality. Specimen discoloration over time is normal and does not indicate decay.
Store your dissecting specimens at normal room temperature--refrigeration is not required. Storage in attics or garages at high temperatures will damage the specimens. Once opened, specimens can be resealed for later use in a Zip-lock bag to prevent them from drying out.

What a great price for everything that was included! This will be the first place I come for our Science needs. - Saturday, May 04, 2013 great kitReviewed By: Lena Cleveland I can't believe how fast my order arrived! Plus it was exactly as described in the catalog. I'm very happy with this kit. The printed guides are very clear and easy to follow. I'll definitely order again! - Saturday, July 07, 2012 Great ExperienceReviewed By: Gina Rasmussen The kit was exactly what was described. My kids loved it! - Saturday, March 31, 2012 Great Kit and PriceReviewed By: Kim Bryant First order from HST's and we are very satisfied. Perfect kit for parts of the ABeka Biology. Just received so dissection is in our near future, but the specimens look great as well as all of the additional tools/supplies that I had ordered. Read More Reviews - Tuesday, February 21, 2012 prefer bigger specimens Reviewed By: Linda Edwards The took kit that comes with the set has everything one needs. The dissection booklets are good as well. Most of the specimens were okay (though the clam did not preserve as well as the others), but after using these kits wtih my homeschool class one year, I decided to purchase the individual larger specimens for future years. The cost is a bit more to purchase separately, but the larger size really makes the dissections much easier and the students are more likely to be able to identify the parts well. I do think the Home Science Tools specimens are as good as any I've purchased elsewhere.
- Thursday, January 26, 2012 Great tools Reviewed By: Christy My son and husband have spent many long hours dissecting since the kit came. The tools are very good and professional. I do agree, though, that the pictures and directions for the dissections could be better.
- Monday, August 22, 2011 Awesome Set! Reviewed By: MS This dissection kit has everything needed and is organized well in each section.
Specimens are great, well preserved, and don't stink terribly. (a plus in my book!) Used for Biology. Thanks!
- Saturday, April 23, 2011 Dissection Kit Intermediate Reviewed By: Ann I think the specimens were fresh and of good quality. I found the tool kit was frustrating because it lacked a guide sheet that identified each tool and how
it will be used during the dissection.
Also, the kit should include gloves.
The booklet for dissecting was okay. It should have better pictures for
dissecting.
- Monday, October 18, 2010 Great Value for the money spent! Reviewed By: M I purchased this kit to go along with Life Science for my daughter. It was shipped promptly and arrived in perfect condition. Nice kit with every thing you need; the tools are nice and come with a protective case to store them in which is nice for this price range. Much better than what I remembered from school.
- Saturday, October 09, 2010 Better than school dissection Reviewed By: Juan I think this intermediate dissection kit is a must have. It is better than the dissection kids do at school. And it doesn't have that gross smell :)
- Monday, August 02, 2010 Worth the money Reviewed By: keri I ordered a couple of these kits. It is worth the money. Great! Kids are excited. I stocked our science center at home from this website!
- Wednesday, July 14, 2010 dissection set Reviewed By: Mary We have ordered this kit again and again. It has everything that I need at a great price!
- Monday, March 08, 2010 Overall good Reviewed By: Kimberly We bought this for a group of eight 8th graders in our cooperative. Although we were disappointed with a few of the specimens, overall the kit was very good. The dissection tools are of good quality, and most of the instruction booklets were easy to follow. We found it helpful to have another set of instructions for the earthworm which we found online, and I wish we had done the same for the grasshopper and the clam. It was a good thing we had four of each animal, because some of our specimens were easier to work with and identify than others. Two of our crayfish were like "mush" inside, but the other two were better. Same for the grasshoppers. The frogs, earthworms, starfish, and perch rated highest with us. We would definitely do it again, especially being able to have multiple samples of each animal. Again, overall a very good product.

- Wednesday, April 01, 2009 Great kit for the young and old Reviewed By: Sierra I bought this kit for my 7 and 8 year olds. They love it. Everything you need is there. The odor is very minimal. They can't wait to buy more.
- Monday, March 09, 2009 Super Kit Reviewed By: Kathleen Kowski We gave the Intermediate Dissecting Kit to our granddaughter for her 9th birthday. Before the day was over she had studied the earthworm and clam. She is looking forward to dissecting the other animals in the kit. In our opinion this is one of the best kits available. The guides are very helpful in explaining what is being looked at and exactly how to go about doing the dissecting. The instruments are perfect for children to use with guidance.
We do agree with others that the extra box of pins is needed.
- Thursday, October 23, 2008 medium dissection kit Reviewed By: Susan Miner Kit was very useful and helpful. I would suggest a few more pins, however as we had to move pins around according to what we were "identifying" as we dissected the worm. Customer service was very helpful when i called with a question about our kit.
- Tuesday, August 05, 2008 Intermediate Disection Kit Reviewed By: Suzi Mattingly I ordered the Intermediate Dissection Kit for my 13 year old who has been interested in dissecting for quite a while. There was a nice assortment of beginning specimens. The dissecting guides were very well done and were helpful. The dissecting tools are of good quality. Overall, I am very pleased with my order and plan to order more specimens in the near future. Thank you for making the ordering process so easy.

- Thursday, June 12, 2008 Very nice kit Reviewed By: Charlotte This was a great kit and came just as advertised. The animals did not have an overly strong odor and the specimens were in good condition. The only thing missing was that it's necessary to order extra T-pins which are about $3 for a box. Be sure to order these along with the kit so that your project goes more smoothly. After this kit I think we will move on to mammal organs and the tools that came with the kit are high quality, so we will only have to buy the specimens from this point forward.
- Friday, May 16, 2008 Dissection Kit Intermediate Reviewed By: Julia Swancy I teach high school-level biology to homeschoolers and ordered six of these sets for my class. They were the perfect addition to the course. The students were very enthusiastic, even the reluctant ones :) The diagrams that come with the specimens are very helpful. I ordered an extra set to dissect with my five-year-old son, and he loved it too! I highly recommend this set!

- Wednesday, February 20, 2008 home school in NH This was our first purchase from Home Science Tools and it won't be our last!
We are so enjoying the quality of this product and its ease of use.
I have a fifth grader and an eighth grader and they are both learning a great deal through this kit.

- Monday, November 12, 2007 Very Complete Reviewed By: Barbara Morale The kit comes with everything you need! Specimens, tools and manuals. We have only done the earthworm, so far, but it has all the specimens we need for our homeschooled 7th grader.
- Friday, August 17, 2007 Intermediate Dissection Kit I was extremely pleased with the Dissection Kit (Intermediate) that I ordered from your website.
It was just as described and I feel was an excellent value for what we got.
The booklets the kit came with were very nicely done. My 4 year old son and I did the dissections together. Except the starfish which he thought was too cool to cut up. He opted to put it in a Ziploc bag to show his friends instead.
We spent hours together and his attention span wasn’t broken once.
The dye injected into the frog enabled him to recognize the different organs and even identify some parts on his own!
A testament to both the quality of the specimens and the documentation that was included. After all, he is only 4!
- Thursday, January 04, 2007 Intermediate dissection kit My 5th grade son requested to do some dissection, so we purchased the intermediate kit. Wow! What a wonderful set! This is a high school "course", but presented well enough for my young son to understand. The instruction booklets are laid out perfectly and very informative. I've never done a lab like this before and was very pleased that it was easy to use.
- Tuesday, September 05, 2006 Just right for high school biology! Just the right size for a typical high school biology course! This dissection set with specimens is just the right choice for a student taking only one biology course in high school. It comes with the perfect tools for dissection, which may be saved for future students, and the right number of specimens, which correspond to typical programs offered to homeschoolers. For those wishing to pursue science, other fuller specimen products are available.
