More Information

Earthworm, 8-10", plain specimen

Item# PM-WORM

Study the digestive, circulatory, reproductive, and nervous systems of the earthworm. Plain (not injected) preserved dissection specimen. Earthworm species is Lumbricus terrestris (nightcrawler).

10+ pricing is based on bulk-packed specimens. When necessary, you will receive a combination of 10-packs and individually packed specimens to fill your order.

Note: Specimens are initially preserved with a formaldehyde solution, the best animal tissue fixative. The formaldehyde is then displaced first with water and finally with a glycol solution to produce a moist, low-fume specimen which will not decay over time. Plan to use specimens within one year of purchase to ensure the best tissue quality. Specimen discoloration and dryness over time is normal and does not indicate decay.

Store your specimens at normal room temperature—refrigeration is not required. Storage in attics or garages at high temperatures will damage the specimens. Once opened, specimens can be resealed in a zip-lock bag to prevent them from drying out for later use.

4 star Review by
The worms were a nice length. Wish they were wider, but we were able to see organs.
Shipping was very fast. Thank you.
Worth the Price Review by
Just as expected
Fun to dissect!! Review by
We were very pleased with the quality of the dissection specimens. We thought the prices were good too. We found the quality of them to be great & felt they were preserved very well. We had them waiting for 6 months or so until we actually needed them & had no issues at all. They were preserved perfectly.

The only issue we had w/the worm we dissected was that we could not figure out the gender as the sex organs were hard to figure out, since for some reason, that small area of the worm seemed flattened though the rest of it was in perfect shape. Maybe it was user error?? Maybe it was really smashed?? We weren't worried about it & felt we had gained enough knowledge from the lab that we just moved forward rather than requesting a new specimen & having to leave the lab work open ended while waiting, having to dissect again, etc. Still a great specimen & lots of fun!

We will order more dissection supplies & specimens for advanced biology after we complete chemistry.

We <3 Apologia & HST too! We recommend them to anybody in need of science supplies :).
Excellent specimens Review by
For the most part we have found these earthworm specimens to be of high quality. Occasionally we receive a specimen which differs somewhat from the others--may be a little longer or shorter--but usually the organs are just as identifiable.
specimen old? Review by
I purchased 2 earth worm specimens for my biology class and one came in excellent condition, but the other seemed almost decayed. The organs were indistinct and crumbly and hard to identify.
Both orders were packaged and shipped quickly and well.
