This Orthoceras fossil from Morocco is in a black matrix that contrasts sharply with the light-colored fossil. The Orthoceras fossil is 3" to 3.5" in length and the entire piece is 3.5" to 4" in length. It's a nice collection piece and also makes an attractive decorating or conversation item for home or office.

Orthoceras are extinct marine animals from the class Cephalopoda and phylum Mollusca. They have a straight, tapered shell that is divided into multiple compartments. Although they look squid-like, their closest modern relative is the Nautilus.
