Frog, grass, 3.5"-4", single injected
This medium single injected preserved grass frog specimen has a body length of 3.5" to 4", large enough to see all the internal organs and external structures. The arteries are injected with red latex to make easier to trace the vascular system. The medium size and single injected vessels of this preserved grass frog specimen provide a good balance between enhanced dissection experience and cost. Genus and species is typically Rana forreri.
Note: Specimens are initially preserved with a formaldehyde solution, the best animal tissue fixative. The formaldehyde is then displaced first with water and finally with a glycol solution to produce a moist, low-fume specimen which can be stored almost indefinitely. We recommend that you use specimens within one year of purchase to ensure the best tissue quality. Specimen discoloration over time is normal and does not indicate decay.
Store your specimens at normal room temperature--refrigeration is not required. Storage in attics or garages at high temperatures will damage the specimens. Once opened, specimens can be resealed in a Zip-lock bag to prevent them from drying out for later use.
Note: This item only ships to the 50 US states with Economy, Ground or Express shipping options.

It had, as listed, low odor. It was large enough that it was easy to identify the different organs. Also, the red latex injection made it easy to trace the vascular system. I took time to draw each phase of the dissection in my science notebook. I find that this helps me focus and notice all the details of the specimen. As always, an outstanding product from Home Science Tools. Recommended. - Thursday, March 28, 2013 Happy with our frogReviewed By: Melanie My older daughter already did this dissection so all I needed was the frog specimen. This company handled my order promptly, as though this were a bulk order, and offered the best price I found online. - Thursday, December 20, 2012 Best deal I've foundReviewed By: Cara I run a homeschool co-op, and I used to buy from another company which is well-known in our circle of friends. I came across Home Science Tools while looking for dissection specimens, and I will do all my future shopping here. Each order has been prompt, accurate, and less expensive than other sources.
These frogs were a great bargain and fantastic specimens. I wondered if they would be large enough, but I'm glad I didn't spend more to go bigger. We could see all major organs clearly, and we even found some small beetles in the stomach of one of the frogs. I was also pleasantly surprised by the lack of odor when we opened them. Fantastic product and service...will be back for our future science needs. - Tuesday, September 18, 2012 frogReviewed By: Vicki Conley I ordered my 4 specimens separately because I already had a disecting kit. My frog was huge. He was well preserved. The shipping was fast and efficient. - Thursday, January 26, 2012 The Classic DissectionReviewed By: Jodi This is the classic dissection nearly all students perform at some point during their schooling. I can recommend this frog for that dissection. It was larger than I expected and the red latex injected in the frog made seeing the vessels easy. I recommend purchasing "How to Dissect" from Home Science Tools, or checking it out at your local library, to aid in the dissection. All in all, a smooth dissection and a good learning experience. - Wednesday, March 11, 2009 larger than expected Reviewed By: Mrs Miller Larger than expected. Quick delivery. Didn't even smell as bad as we expected!
- Sunday, November 30, 2008 Great for my class Great frogs! I ordered 5 for my class and they were lots of fun. The order came earlier than expected (even with UPS ground) and the specimen size was very good and more than useful (larger than I had anticipated)
- Friday, August 22, 2008 Great Learning Experience Reviewed By: Vermont Fantastic learning experience! My 11 yr. old son loved it! The specimen was good size, instruction booklet was very clear. Will definately be purchasing more.
- Wednesday, May 14, 2008 Karen Reviewed By: Karen What FUN! The specimen is a great value. It was larger than expected. Will definitely purchase again.
- Monday, April 21, 2008 Great specimens Reviewed By: Jennifer This was my first time with frog dissection. I used the frogs to dissect after our study of the human anatomy. The frogs were a very good size--bigger than I had expected! My 5th graders were very involved with the dissection and learned a lot! I will be ordering more frogs next year.
- Thursday, April 03, 2008 Excellent Class Project Reviewed By: 4th Grade Teacher I decided to try a frog dissection with my fourth graders as an enrichment project prior to Spring Break! The specimens were great, and my students were very intrigued with the anatomy! I was thrilled with the size of the frogs, the order came quickly, and I would definitely order from your company again!
- Tuesday, February 26, 2008 Nice Specimens Your dissection specimans are very nice. Your frogs in particular tend to be larger than some from other mail-order companies and that makes dissection much easier.
- Saturday, October 20, 2007 Great Experience Very fun!! We found some insects in the stomach. We were also able to extract the brain from the skull (very tricky!!). It is very cool how the 3-part liver fits together. We were able to identify it as a female frog. If it weren't for the formaldehyde, we would have devoured the legs!!
