Fuel Cell Car Kit
Clean, efficient fuel cell technology will likely power the cars of the future. This high-quality Thames & Kosmos Fuel Cell Car kit is the ultimate educational tool for exploring fuel cell technology in-depth. The 96-page lab manual thoroughly explains all scientific concepts and principles. It includes over 30 detailed experiments covering:
- Conversion of solar energy to electricity,
- Storage of this electrical energy through electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen and oxygen gas,
- Recombination of the hydrogen in a fuel cell to produce water and electrical energy that powers a small car.
The car in the kit can be powered in two basic ways. Students will be able to experiment with each.
- The solar cell can power the motor directly.
- The solar cell can power the fuel cell to split water by electrolysis into hydrogen and oxygen gas, then the fuel cell can be reversed to recombine the gases to produce water and generate electricity to power the motor.
The kit includes a large solar cell, fuel cell, motor drive, digital multimeter, and all other items needed to build, operate, and experiment with a fuel cell car powered completely by solar energy. Completing the lab manual is equivalent to one semester of lab science. You supply distilled water and adult supervision for junior high students. Ages 12 & up.

Great multidisciplinary science/engineering product.Reviewed By: John Robbins This kit is an excellent and fascinating introduction to energy sources of the future. You get a hydrogen fuel cell to experiment and play with, and with which you can perform electrolysis experiments with.
You get a solar panel that you can use to, yes, produce electricity but of at least equal importance, use to study the changes in solar radiation throughout the day and year.
You get a multi-meter to measure voltage and current and are introduced to the basic concepts of electricity.
And the best part of all, you get to put it all together in a neat little car that really, really works.
My homeschool daughter and I were out in the street conducting some experiments which brought out the curious neighbors to see what we were doing, giving them an impromptu lesson on the chemistry of water.
A must have product for the intellectually curious.
