Turtles and rabbits and bugs! Oh my!
It was Christmas in July when the box arrived. Books are a favorite and this one was no exception but -- living in Eastern Europe I had little hope that the critters depicted in the Guide would actually be found in our neck of the woods. Happily, I was wrong! The children have captured and identified over half of the insects featured in the "Caterpillars, Bugs, & Butterflies" section. After following the directions in the book, we are are getting a front row seat to the cabbage caterpillars-->cocoon-->butterflies metamorphosis. The scrap book pages are wonderful for pressing nature walk finds. The ruler markings on the back cover have come in handy to bring descriptions of gigantic and enormous into a truer perspective. Easy to read type size and white space with great pictures. Very easy for children under 10 to use without adult interference/supervision. It is a bit heavy as field guides go but it is perfect for the younger set.
