H-Racer Hydrogen Car & Fuel Station
Save $10 for a limited time!
Bring the future of travel home today with the new hydrogen H-Racer, powered by a clean-energy fuel cell instead of gasoline or batteries! Fuel up this sleek model race car with hydrogen gas, produced in the H-Racer's refueling station by electrolysis of water using either the included solar panel or AA batteries. Then watch the H-Racer go as the hydrogen combines with oxygen from the air in the onboard fuel cell, generating a DC current that makes the racer's motor run. With a full tank, the car can travel 80-100 feet!

This kit becomes a full unit study with the included Renewable Energy Science Education CD-ROM, which contains a 129-page digital (PDF) textbook on renewable energy by Dr. Colleen Spiegel, a 124-page experiment manual, flash animations to show how fuel cells work, technical support, and a kit assembly guide. The textbook includes 7 chapters that cover topics such as climate change, solar energy, wind energy, electrolysis, fuel cells, hydrogen power, and electronics. The material is appropriate for middle school through high school, and advanced topics are included for the upper grade levels. The experiment manual is written for the complete Renewable Energy Science Kit, but has tips for adapting the experiments to this specific kit.
One of the great advantages of using this hydrogen-powered fuel cell energy is that there are no harmful emissions - the only by-products are electricity, heat, and water. Scientists are working to apply this technology on a larger scale with full-size race cars as well as other vehicles. As you experiment with the H-Racer Hydrogen Car, you'll learn about water electrolysis and fuel cells (the science behind hydrogen power) as well as recent advances in fuel cell technology. Find out for yourself why the H-Racer was named one of the best inventions of 2006 by TIME magazine!
Some assembly is required to use the H-Racer. You provide two AA batteries. Ages 13 & up.
The H-Racer can be used as a science fair project. Here are just a few project ideas:
- Does solar energy or battery power refuel the H-Racer quicker?
- What is the best time of the day to refuel the H-Racer with energy from the sun?
- How to rough or smooth surfaces affect the amount of time the H-Racer can run before refueling.
- How does temperature affect the refueling process?
- How does temperature affect the amount of time the H-Racer can run before refueling.
