Heart, sheepA sheep heart is similar in size to a human's; dissection shows the atriums, ventricles, aorta, valves, veins, and arteries. Plain preserved specimen of adult sheep heart. Can be used instead of a cow's heart.Note: Dissection specimens are initially preserved with a formaldehyde solution, the best animal tissue fixative. The formaldehyde is then displaced with water and then with a glycol solution to produce a moist, low-fume specimen which can be stored almost indefinitely. We recommend that you use specimens within one year of purchase to ensure the best tissue quality. Specimen discoloration over time is normal and does not indicate decay. Store your specimens at normal room temperature - refrigeration is not required. Storage in attics or garages at high temperatures will damage the specimens. Once opened, specimens can be resealed in a Zip-lock bag to prevent them from drying out for later use.More InformationOverall Rating: ![]() Write an online review and share your thoughts with other customers Sort Reviews: Newest | Oldest | Highest Rating | Lowest Rating - Thursday, March 19, 2009No problems - Quick delivery We ordered the hearts for a science fair project. We recieved them quickly and had no problems - Thursday, March 19, 2009Sheep Heart Reviewed By: W. Bales Hearts were all in good condition. Only negative is that the external blood vessels are cut off flush with the surface. I ordered 5 hearts and they provided an excellent dissection for 10 students. All were able to identify the major components of the external circulatory system despite the very short length. Just make sure they understand the anatomy before they start cutting. Great value. - Tuesday, February 10, 2009Nice overall-a few problems though I purchased 4 Human Anatomy dissection kits, which included the sheep heart, for a co-op class. Two of the four hearts were in excellent condition, but one of the remaining was cut in both atria, leaving a loose flap of tissue on one side, and a ragged looking atrium on the other. The fourth heart was smashed almost beyond recognition, though I was able to figure out which chambers were which after probing all the vessels and feeling the thickness of the walls of the ventricles. The valves were in good shape, and overall the specimens were adequate for our needs. - Sunday, January 18, 2009Basic foundational specimen Reviewed By: erin Specimens had everything one would basically need for an intro-to-dissection-activity. Aortas were cut pretty short, but not sure if that was the way they were supposed to be. Fatty layers around heart, made it into a "teachable moment" about visceral fat. -Fast shipment. Overall specimens were in good quality. - Tuesday, January 13, 2009Awful. Diminished and Harmed Learning Experience The specimins lacked all external features - aorta, vena cava, pulminary, etc.; they were chopped to the muscle and since they were smashed in vacuum sealed pouches and very fatty, there was no way to discern front from back, right from left until they were cut into. But if you begin to cut in the wrong place, at the wrong angle, you destroy the dissection and are unable to view the compartments and valves. Very dissappointing product. The external features are absolutely necesary and these hearts lacked them entirely. Poor, poor. Read More Reviews |
