It comes with a thick plastic dust cover, so unless you are doing a lot of traveling or it will be stored for large periods of time (such as over the summer in a public school setting), I would think buying the carrying case is not an investment a family may want to make. I bought the case, but upon receiving the order, realized there is really no need for it. But, at least we have it if we ever need it for one reason or another....

- Tuesday, January 20, 2009 Disappointment but Good Recovery Reviewed By: Scott - Phoenix, AZ The disappointment came when my daughter opened the gift on Christmas morning only to find that the eyepiece was disconnected (broken) from the microscope. The rivots that connect the eyepiece never got attached to the scope; it should have been checked before it was shipped. Needless to say, big disappointment the morning of Christmas.
The only decent part of the story was they sent me a new microscope immediately (even though it was sent by ground and I didn't receive it for another week).
The new scope is great but the event certainly reduced the enthusiasm and excitement of receiving a new scope for Christmas ... that can't be replaced.

- Friday, August 01, 2008 Very Satisfied Reviewed By: Jason I remember using my dad's microscope when I was a kid and loving it. I wanted to give that same experience to my kids, but I didn't want to waste our time with the cheap toy store versions you often see.
This is the microscope I was looking for! It's made of solid/heavy metal and has all of the parts that I expect on a microsocpe. I am very glad I bought it, and my kids are glad too.
My only complaint is that it doesn't come with a case. I wish it had a wood (or even heavy plastic) case.

The microscope's eyepiece was not attached - luckily my roommate had the right wrench to adjust the screws to mount the eyepiece.

Love this microscope! We are not a home-schooled family but this is already feeding my 12 year old daughter's fascination for science. As good, if not better, than the one at school according to her science teacher who assisted me in choosing the right microscope for this past Christmas. I have already donated blood and cheek cell tissue for her to study and am amazed at the detail we can see! Very easy to use also. We also purchased the hard case to store it safely.

We purchased this scope for my son's birthday and my husband said he couldn't tell who was more excited, me or my son. Levi and I had a great time together using the scope. I found this microscope easy to use,most of all very useful.My family have made several slides and have found it fascinating looking at what we dont see with our own eyes.we have just completed a leaf slide,and now we are making a bacteria slide.My student is now interested in looking at many other things under our scope. We ordered this microscope for our home school, and it has exceeded our expectations. The light is cool and provides smooth, flicker-free viewing. The swivel eyepiece allows us each to view the specimen without having to move around. This piece of equipment is sturdy and should be around for many years.
