It is useful to enable the students to see which parts of the brain are effected by various drugs. - Friday, November 02, 2007Human Brain Model Review This model allows learners to kinesthetically explore the major structures of the brain without the mess of a dissection. This could prove useful to learners who have difficulty interpreting the 2-dimensional photos and diagrams typically found in books. Some interpretation is still required, however, since one must still interpret the cross-sections that are visible. The pieces fit together like a 3-D puzzle, and the accompanying pamphlet is quite professional, making it easy to identify the individual structures that are presented. Due to the nature of a model, the number of structures presented are limited, so I would consider this model to be an optional resource. Because it takes up storage space and has limited educational value, I prefer to spend my financial resources on items that have more educational potential. An actual dissection of a sheep's brain would be more realistic, but this model provides an alternative for those who desire a hands-on approach but for whom dissection is not a viable option. This product would ideally be purchased by libraries or home school support groups so the model could be loaned out to families to use for a period of time as a supplement to their curriculum. |
