Jr. ChemHead Book
This book for young scientists is a great introduction to the world of chemistry! Jr. ChemHead is written in an easy-to-read style, with funny cartoon illustrations that make the labs entertaining. Atoms and molecules, simple reactions, bubbles, crystals, polymers and slime, hydrology, and many more topics are covered in this book.Experiments include Sorting Sugar & Salt, Baking-Soda Cannon, Mixing Oil & Water, Bouncing Blob, Giant Bubble Machine, and many more! With 50 experiments and more than 100 science fair ideas, this book can help prepare younger students for a full course in chemistry. Written by B.K. Hixson. Grades 3-8.
The experiments in this book require lab equipment, including beakers, flasks, safety gear, and chemicals. The experiments with chemicals require adult supervision.
Dry ice is required in five experiments and can be purchased at most grocery stores. Only an adult should handle dry ice as it can cause thermal burns! The instructions in Jr. ChemHead are not clear on what type of protection to wear when experimenting with dry ice. You MUST wear thermally insulated gloves (such as heavy winter gloves) to provide adequate protection. Minimize touching the dry ice, even with winter gloves on. Instead, use kitchen tongs to handle the dry ice.
