I absolutely LOVE my new microscope! I had a microbiologist friend of mine come and "check it out" because I had purchased based upon her recommendations of what to search for in a "top-quality" microscope.
After she had used it for a couple of hours, she replied that it was an even better scope then she used in her medical profession, regarding both the design and function! She was very impressed with the quality, the ergonomics, the wonderful contrast (I purchased the Super-high Contrast lens objectives), and the very reasonable price! I now buy ALL my science supplies from Home Science Tools. They are fast, top-quality and very helpful in their customer service department.
I have since purchased a digital camera to use with my microscope, in order to make classroom teaching more feasible in regard to time. Since I couldn't realistically purchase several microscopes for each student, I decided to purchase a camera to project onto a laptop instead. Once I get it all hooked up, use it and check out it's quality and feasibility, I will submit a review for it as well.
If you are considering a microscope with your home school or other class situation, I strongly recommend you consider this binocular version of a lab microscope, or even the trinocular if you KNOW for sure you will use a camera. The exact model is ~ $200 higher elsewhere; I also got the Super High Contrast objectives as an upgrade based on comparisons from other sources which showed this to be worth getting even over the more expensive PLAN objectives.
The microscope was directly shipped from National Optical and was well packaged. Note: some assembly is required! I took my time but the instructions were easy to follow.
Viewing through this instrument is exceptionally good. The lighting is bright and the images produced are crisp and easy to bring to focus at every magnification. I heartily recommend this item! - Tuesday, September 05, 2006 A top-quality microscope A top-quality microscope at an unbeatable price! Versatile, easy to use, with high-quality optics this is the scope to get for all your high school (or even college) level biology work.
I have worked with a number of different scopes in the school and lab setting and expected to have difficulty adjusting when we purchased this for our family, but I have been very satisfied!
