(Mineral Identification Starter Set
This mineral identification kit has everything you need to get groups of students started identifying minerals! It contains 150 mineral samples, a 68-page illustrated lab manual, and a mineral testing kit. There are five samples each of copper, graphite, fluorite, chalcedony, magnetite, and 25 other kinds of minerals. The laboratory manual includes detailed information about the physical and chemical properties of minerals. The Mineral Testing Kit contains everything needed to determine the hardness, color, streak, cleavage, and magnetism of a mineral. Taxonomic information is given for 82 different mineral samples, including the 30 in this kit. There is a mineral identification guide at the back of the lab manual, to use once you have performed tests on a mineral sample. Instructions are also given to find the specific gravity, tenacity, crystalline structure, transparency, odor, luster, solubility, and reactivity with acids of any mineral. If you wish to perform the acid tests and find the specific gravity of different minerals some additional materials will be needed, including safety equipment for using chemicals such as sulfuric acid.
