This extra large plain preserved fish specimen is either grey perch or drum, depending on availability. The large size and structure are superior for fish dissections. Species is typically Micropogonias undulatus or Pomadayses magranthus.

Note: Dissection specimens are initially preserved with a formaldehyde solution, the best animal tissue fixative. The formaldehyde is then displaced first with water and finally with a glycol solution to produce a moist, low-fume specimen which can be stored almost indefinitely. We recommend that you use specimens within one year of purchase to ensure the best tissue quality. Specimen discoloration over time is normal and does not indicate decay.

Store your specimens at normal room temperature--refrigeration is not required. Storage in attics or garages at high temperatures will damage the specimens. Once opened, specimens can be resealed in a Zip-lock bag to prevent them from drying out for later use.

Shipping Note: This item only ships to a street address in the 50 US states with Standard or UPS shipping options.

Nice large size. Quick delivery. Really like being able to order individual specimens. Reasonably priced.

Our Best Dissection, Yet

This was our best dissection, yet. The large size meant we could cut into it without too much worry about destroying the internal organs inside. We were able to open up the head and see the gill arches, and we were able to open up the belly and clearly see the heart, liver, stomach, intestines, and air bladder.

Great size! I did not expect such a large perch and in such great shape!

For the money, it is a worthwhile dissection. I think the kids would have enjoyed the experiment more had they been able to go out and catch their own fish to dissect.
