My children and I have really enjoyed this set. The handy rock identification key and descriptions of each rock have made it easy for us to learn to identify the specimens. The divided tray keeps the rocks neatly organized for displaying on our nature table. The set includes a nice variety of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks, and the rocks are a decent size too.

These samples were great for us to learn about different igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. They were perfect for seeing and holding the rocks we were learning about in the books we were reading.

Beginner's Set

I used this collection for a class that I was teaching on rocks and the rock cycle. I was impressed with the specimen size of the rocks. Having the rocks numbered, along with the identification guide was helpful too. Some were very easy to identify- Obsidian and Pumice, others varied a bit from pictures we were browsing online. Just wanted to make sure we were correctly identifying them!

This rock collection is just what I was looking for for my 7-year old grandson. I wanted a collection that was labeled, but one in which the rocks weren't glued down --- I wanted him to be able to pick them up and study them. I also ordered a small rock book to go along with it, and a bag of unmarked rocks --- for him to study and figure out what kind of rocks they are. I'm very happy with all 3 purchases, and I know he'll be delighted.

Years later, the box is still intact, the rocks still have their labels, and the set still looks great, even after these 3 or 4 years of repeated use.
