Classroom Collection of Rocks and Minerals, 50 Specimens
This deluxe classroom collection of 50 number-coded unmounted 1" specimens is ideal for all earth science studies. Specimens include examples of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, ores, and gemstones. Nine of the ten hardness levels from the Mohs scale of hardness are included (all but diamond, the hardest). Quality compartmented storage box and Rocks, Minerals and Gemstones: an Introductory Study Guide are included. Ages 12 & up.
The 16-page Rocks, Minerals and Gemstones: an Introductory Study Guide has basic introductory information on many, but not all, of the rock and mineral specimens in this collection. It is organized into sections on mineral properties, metallic minerals, nonmetallic minerals, rock forming minerals, igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks, and gemstones. It also has charts on the rock cycle and on classification of the three types of rocks.

Overall Rating: Write an online review and share your thoughts with other customers Sort Reviews: Newest | Oldest | Highest Rating | Lowest Rating - Saturday, January 19, 2013 Well-Rounded CollectionReviewed By: Dawn We have a number of rock & mineral samples, but I needed a set that included each class of rock as well as a selection of ores for a homeschool lesson. Very good set. Well-labeled, good size for placing under the microscope or hand lens. Small hint, but I suggest gluing the identification sheet to the inside box cover so it won't accidentally get misplaced. - Tuesday, December 18, 2012 Great collection!Reviewed By: jeff creed Really nice collection! So nice to get something well made and professionally put together with care these days !! - Thursday, April 26, 2012 LackingReviewed By: Jack Smith Not enough samples. Missing siltstone and mudstone in sedimentary rocks - Wednesday, December 08, 2010 jimReviewed By: james schaab great product. grandchild love it. good size, well marked. well done, i will use this site to order more products in the future. - Tuesday, August 17, 2010 Unbeatable Price and Quality Reviewed By: Nicole I love the selection and quality of this rock display. The rocks are generously sized and the selection is so varied that this is the only rock collection I'll need for an Earth Science course. I have not found a comparable rock set at price that's better than this one! Read More Reviews - Thursday, January 07, 2010 Great Homeschooling Product Reviewed By: Denise We're a home schooling family and this product is just what we needed. Some things can be taught by books and other things you need to touch. Don't waste your money on kits where the samples are glued to the paper. It defeats the whole purpose.
- Thursday, February 26, 2009 Love It Reviewed By: Cherrie I bought this for a cub scout project for my son. It is great! Lots of different rocks an minerals. I priced out different sets from different companies, and this was the best value. We shipped by UPS and it arrived in great shape.
- Tuesday, February 03, 2009 Everyone loved this one... Reviewed By: Suzanne in CA We got this for out 7 year old son for Christmas. I was very pleased with the set, the price, and everything came in great shape. I personally like the brown box it comes in- it's like a big chocolate box. And I like that you can take each rock out and examine it.
The set was entertaining for our son, all his uncles (ages up to 30), and most anyone who stopped by and said "What's in there?". Everyone loved quizzing each other and guessing the names of the rocks (ok- we're nerds!). Highly recommended!
- Thursday, January 08, 2009 Great Product Great overall product! The rocks and minerals are of substantial enough size to study and note variations. I agree that the packaging is not teriffic - but it is certainly adequate and comparable to other products being offered.
- Thursday, January 08, 2009 Good product Reviewed By: Val Great product. Received with no problems, only a few moved rocks. Very interesting. Only wish is that it could travel better, possibly with a harder plastic covering over the rocks. My son would love to bring to school but I cannot forsee it making the trip unscathed. Otherwise good product for the price.
- Sunday, July 27, 2008 50 Rock set Reviewed By: Tom in San Diego My 7 year old son loved it! Everything arrived on time and it great shape.
- Tuesday, June 03, 2008 Great set and packing Reviewed By: I Perez Our 7 year old boy got it for his birthday and loved it. The box made it all the way to Mexico without any damage at all. Great set!
- Sunday, April 13, 2008 Awesome display set Reviewed By: dannie This display set arrived in perfect condition. We were very pleased with the sample sizes and literature that came inside of the set. Great choice!!
- Saturday, March 15, 2008 Very diverse collection This collection is great and is worth the extra money, if you can afford it. There is a wide variety and it arrived it good condition. (Some of the softer minerals cracked, but that is normal and worked in our favor for our learning purposes.)
- Wednesday, December 19, 2007 Great collection for rock & mineral studies! Includes most, if not all, of the rocks and minerals discussed in middle school science books. The packaging is fine and even though some of the rocks and minerals were not in their proper "slots" after shipping, they were all clearly marked and could be quickly put in place. I found the number stickers to be securely attached so there was no problem with identification.
- Thursday, December 13, 2007 Received rocks in good condition with UPS UPS shipped these in very good condition. I was very hestitant to order because of the other comments. The rocks & minerals were nicely packed in a sturdy box and if they did fall out you could easily put them back in order. Very good customer service and quick shipping.
- Friday, November 02, 2007 Rocks and Minerals Deluxe Set I was hesitant to order this product because of the warnings in previous reviews about the lack of proper packaging upon delivery. However, our rocks arrived today in good order. All rocks were in place with labels affixed. I would recommend this product.
- Thursday, January 25, 2007 A Good Collection But Packaging Needs Improvement I give this product four stars for the selection and size. However, the packaging could have been a bit better. In that it had no seal covering it but only a thin foam rubber sheet, the samples were all over the box and some of the numbers had come off. The first thing I had to do was sort through the samples and get them back in order. Nevertheless, they held up to the travel. I also got no number thirteen but two fourteens. These two things cost it a star. However, my only complaint is in the packaging. It is a nice sample and starter kit and useful for identifying other samples as well as seeing examples of the three main rock types and how they compare in appearance and texture within the rock cycle. This was to be a starter kit to see if I wanted to buy other rock packages for closer study.Yes, I would and will. I just hope the next one will be packaged a bit more carefully.

- Monday, January 15, 2007 Rocks and minerals deluxe set I did alot of searching on the internet for rock and mineral kits and this was the most complete for the best price. the kids were really fascinated by it.
- Sunday, January 07, 2007 Not bad, needs better packaging. On initial inspection this looks like a good kit. I'm expecting our 2nd grader will be able to explain some of the highlights to me as soon as he sees it.
It arrived in pretty good shape though the specimens had been pretty tossed about from the shipping. The mica had been shattered into a dozen tiny pieces. It would be nice if it were better packaged for shipping.
It looks though to be a pretty comprensive collection. We bought it for use with the rock test kit to get some practice making field identifications.
