Excellent experiment, giving an accurate measurement of the speed of sound. I would recommend that instead of the tuning fork one uses a music player and earphones. The program NCH Tone Generator from www.nch.com.au can be used to produce the wav file with a 512 Hz sound.

We loved this kit!

Initially, we had to read the instructions a few times to get oriented. However, from there the experiement went really well. Our results were accurate (which is often a problem with ready-made kits from other sources), and we all enjoyed the process. One of my kids said, "This is REAL science!" When I asked him why he said that, he explained that the quality of materials were substantial and seemed like things a "real" scientists would use. So often kits utilize "rinky-dink" supplies that break easily or seem like cheap play toys. This is the real deal!

Sound Measurement Kit
 
Last evening, my husband and daughter worked with the sound measurement kit and had great success. The experiment went without a hitch and, much to my husband's surprise, my daughter's results were almost perfect. I would highly recommend this kit.
