Young Naturalist's Backpack Kit

This is the perfect kit for encouraging kids' natural curiosity and introducing them to the wonders of nature! It provides real hands-on tools that allow them to explore the world of birds, plants, insects, and more.

The included Watching Nature book helps kids get started with tips on what to look for and where. In addition, the fact-filled Golden Guides let them identify and learn about the treasures they find. As kids catch butterflies and bugs with the insect net, make a leaf and flower collection with the plant press, and watch birds and other small animals with the compact binoculars, they'll learn valuable observation skills and come to love the intricacies of the natural world.

The Young Naturalist's Backpack Kit is a Gold Award winner in the 2007 National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA) competition for quality educational toys. (Find out more...)

Science has more meaning! Review by
When we gave our girls (10 and 12) the chance to use these backpacks, science changed in our house. They didn't just ask, "Why?" Nor were they satisfied with simply reading about science anymore. Instead, they captured/observed something, proposed questions to themselves and each other, observed behavior, formulated opinions, and researched answers in encyclopedias. The backpacks have held up well with regular use over the past year in our yard, on beaches, through hikes of sharp/jagged rock, etc. I like that they have a spot through which you can thread the butterfly net, leaving one hands-free for hiking.
Would buy again Review by
I started noticing that my children were getting bored and tired of being inside the house. Still, I could seem to coax them outside to climb trees and ride bikes. This back pack kit did the trick! The only have two negative things to say about it. 1. I was expecting a bit tougher/thicker backpack fabric. 2. The binoculars are already broken. Which is sad because it was the thing the children loved more than anything else in the kit. I think I need to buy a more durable pair and one for each child.
Nature backpacks Review by
Last year I bought these for all of my grandchildren (6). We have loved them!! We hike about twice a month during warm months here in La. The binoculars are very user friendly and functional, and they love haing their own, instead of trying to get mine focused. We have enjoyed having everything we need at our fingertips. We have recommended them to several people. It is a great way to allow the child to become involved in exploring nature.
A Perfect Gift Review by
My 7-year-old daughter received this for Christmas and we are all impressed with the quality of the items. Everything has been tested out already and there is a leaf in the flower press as I type. A fun and useful gift that she'll be using for years.
We are THRILLED!!! Review by
I just want to say THANK YOU! We are so excited! I just ordered two of these backpacks for my boys and they came today. I am thrilled with the quality of all of the items that are included. The backpack is heavy duty, the binoculars are not toys, they are great! The books are fantastic, as is the plant press. The net is sturdy and will, I have not doubt, survive even my two enthusiastic guys! We are going to a Nature Center tomorrow for a class on Animals and their Habitats and we are taking our new Nature Backpacks. I could not be happier. Thanks so much for another quality item.
